Jack Armer has spoken about his match-winning performance for Burton Albion against Plymouth Argyle, reflecting on a breakthrough moment in his goalscoring record this season.

The 25-year-old defender struck in the 70th minute to secure three points for Albion on the road, a rare result at Home Park. Armer described the victory as significant given Plymouth's strong home record.

"It's a tough place to go. They've got a good record there and I don't think many teams will go there and win, so it's a great three points for us," Armer said.

A Rare Goal for the Defender

The goal was particularly notable for Armer personally. "I don't think I've scored a winning goal in a very long time, so that was quite good," he said.

The moment also delighted his family in the crowd. "You can see my dad going absolutely mental and running down the stairs when I scored, so that was pretty funny to see," Armer added.

A Banner Season for the Scotsman

With three goals already this season, Armer has matched his most productive campaign to date. He attributes the improvement to his increased involvement in attack.

"I just keep getting forward. I think there were a few times, especially on Saturday, where I was about 30-yards out and started making runs in at the back post," he explained. "More often than not I was free and I was just waiting on the ball to come in. With the number of chances I had, I probably could have had a hat-trick to be fair."

Armer has over 250 professional appearances for Carlisle United and Burton Albion behind him.

Family Football

Armer's younger brother Dan plays as a defender for Manchester United's under-21 side. The 18-year-old has also been on the scoresheet this season, scoring in a 5-0 victory over Ipswich Town under-21s and appearing in pre-season matches with Manchester United's first team.

"There is a little bit [of competition] to be fair," Armer joked about comparing goal tallies with his brother. "He's got a good chance, so he's just got to keep working hard."

Burton Albion's next fixture is a Sky Bet League One home match against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
