Burton Albion Women drew 3-3 with Whitchurch Alport on Sunday 4 October after Freya Holman scored an added-time equaliser. The goal, netted two minutes into stoppage time, secured a point for the Brewers after a dramatic second half saw Alport take the lead.

First Half Performance

Burton made four changes to the lineup that lost to Chasetown the previous week. Captain Shanae Thomas returned to the side, as did goalkeeper Gracie Thompson, Mica Chambers and Hannah Cox.

The Brewers made a strong start. Cox set up Hajrah Mahmood in the opening five minutes, and Mahmood raced onto the pass to poke her finish under Alport goalkeeper Hayley Ralphs for the opening goal.

Mahmood had further chances to extend the lead. She raced behind the defence again from another Cox pass but Ralphs stood big to block her fierce shot from close range. Allyce Davis also cut inside from the right wing but sent a low effort narrowly wide of the left post.

On 40 minutes, Burton doubled their advantage. Ella Doocey hit a long ball forward into the path of Thomas, who took it under control and slotted it calmly into the net.

Just before the break, Davis had another opportunity when she shot from the right side of the box, but Ralphs parried it onto the post and out.

Second Half Turnaround

Alport's turnaround was swift. Within 60 seconds of the restart, Beth Cooke latched onto a defence-splitting pass and swept the ball under Thompson to make it 2-1.

Five minutes later, Alport were level. Cooke struck a corner from close range, striking it high into the roof of the net to equalise.

With 56 minutes gone, Thomas nearly scored what would have been a contender for goal of the season. The ball rebounded to her off a defender and she volleyed it at goal from 40 yards. It beat Ralphs but cannoned off the crossbar.

Alport took the lead when Cooke rose highest to power home a header from a corner, completing her hat-trick.

Burton applied pressure in the closing stages. With six minutes remaining, Akers had a chance at the far post after Thomas sent over a free-kick and Mahmood flicked it on.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Holman netted her second goal in as many weekends to level the match at 3-3 and secure a point for Burton Albion.
