Burton Albion Women suffered a 3-1 defeat to Chasetown on Sunday 27 September in their first home game of the West Midlands Regional Women's Football League Division One North season.
Chasetown dominated the first half, taking a commanding two-goal lead by half-time. Karen Harrigan-Clough opened the scoring within 10 minutes, slotting the ball into the bottom left corner past Burton keeper Freya Mears. Chloe East-Goodman doubled the lead shortly after, striking into the top right corner after the ball ran across her path.
Coach Hiedi Sloane's side made changes at half-time and began the second half brightly. After 54 minutes, Freya Holman reduced the deficit, collecting the ball from Allyce Davis and chipping Chasetown keeper Kaicee Griffin to make it 2-1.
The comeback was short-lived. Just two minutes later, Isla Evans restored Chasetown's two-goal advantage with a strike from the edge of the box that flew over substitute keeper Gracie Thompson into the roof of the net.
Burton created late chances but could not find another goal. Hannah Cox's wind-assisted cross narrowly missed the target, while Holly Bullock twice came close, forcing Griffin into a fine save and later striking the crossbar. Abbie Davies blocked a rebound bravely to keep the score at 3-1.
