Burton Albion's PDP side maintained their unbeaten start to the EFL Youth Alliance Northern Division with a commanding 4-0 home win against Rotherham United. Goals from Kairo Piper (two), Reuben Keller, and Robbie Meakin secured the victory, leaving the Young Brewers with seven points from nine.
First-half dominance
Shaun Barker and Dave Freeman's side started with intensity, scoring twice in the opening 20 minutes. Piper broke the deadlock with a finish set up by Miles Henry, before Keller extended the lead by connecting with Samuel Oyemade's delivery into the area.
Meakin thought he had added a third when he headed Jack Willow's corner, but Rotherham recovered to hook the ball off the line. Henry had another chance moments later from Willow's corner but could not make clean contact. Piper doubled his tally before half-time, shrugging through defenders to finish from a tight angle. The score at the break was 3-0.
Second-half control
Piper tested the Rotherham goalkeeper immediately after the interval but was denied. On the hour mark, the midfielder turned provider for Meakin, who tucked his effort into the bottom right corner to make it 4-0.
Rotherham offered little resistance, with Burton keeper Lucas Joubert barely tested until the 70th-minute mark when he dealt with a shot from distance. Piper had the ball in the net for a third time late in the game, but an offside flag ruled it out. Caden Gilbert and Archie Hancock had late chances but the Young Brewers could not extend their lead further.
