Burton Albion FC hosted its first Fan Forum event of the 2026/27 season on Thursday 17 September at the Pirelli Stadium. Over 150 supporters gathered in the Albion Suite to hear updates from the club's leadership and ask questions directly to senior staff.
The event was chaired by Fan Advisory Board Chairman Andy Woolley and Fan Advisory Board Secretary Richard Moore. Interim Chairman Wouter Gudde, Head of Ticket and Fan Engagement Jodie Carter, and Head of Venue Paul Calladine spoke first.
Financial Position and Long-Term Vision
Gudde addressed the club's current financial position, noting that losses have been reduced by nearly 5 million over the last two seasons. He outlined the long-term strategy of the NFG ownership group, emphasising a focus on stadium development and making Burton Albion Football Club a place for the town.
Stadium Development Updates
Calladine confirmed several improvements underway at the Pirelli Stadium. A new 6 metre by 3 metre scoreboard will be installed between the Monarch Stand and the Russell Roof Tiles Stand, positioned above the BXD First Aid Room. This is anticipated to be in place before the end of October.
Extra cover in the outside bar areas and the Barrel Yard by BXD is also scheduled for completion by the end of October. Looking further ahead, converting the Monarch Security Services (North) Stand to a dedicated family stand is part of the club's long-term vision.
New Ticketing and Retail Systems
Carter addressed the introduction of the new FanEx ticketing system and Jonas Sports retail systems. The club's shop floor has been redesigned with semi self-serve tills.
Transfer Plans and Squad Updates
Sporting Director Richard Dorman and Head Coach Gary Bowyer answered supporter questions in the second half of the forum. They discussed the summer transfer window, the new recruitment process, and contract situations.
Dorman stressed that there will be no further additions to the squad until January unless the club faces a major injury crisis. However, he confirmed the club is already preparing for the January transfer window.
A key topic was the absence of a striker — described as a big number nine — in the current squad. Dorman also addressed the future of midfielder Charlie Webster, confirming that Webster has an additional year option in his contract which could see him remain at the club until 2028.
Women's Team and Academy
Dorman discussed the women's team being brought under the club's football department, alongside the academy. Bowyer expanded on academy matters, sharing his background and emphasising its importance. He discussed what he looks for in players making the step into the first team.
