A new selective licensing scheme for privately rented homes on 16 Burton upon Trent streets will start on 1 January 2027, East Staffordshire Borough Council has announced.
The scheme will run until 31 December 2031. The council says it follows a public consultation and is intended to improve housing conditions and the way rented properties are managed.
Approximately 1,100 privately rented homes are expected to be covered. The council says a separate licence will generally be required for each property within the designated area, unless an exemption applies.
The named streets are listed below. Landlords, managing agents and tenants should check the council’s designated-area information for an individual property.
The 16 streets
- Anglesey Road
- Belvedere Road
- Byrkley Street

The council says homes requiring a licence will be inspected and licence holders will need to meet management and safety conditions.
Councillor Simon Slater, Cabinet Member for Communities and Regulatory Services, said the scheme was intended to improve standards for tenants and provide a consistent basis for responsible landlords.
Property-specific guidance and application information are available on the council’s selective licensing page. Its Environmental Health team can advise on whether a property is affected.
