Work to resurface Derby Road in Burton has passed the halfway point. Staffordshire County Council's £2.3 million scheme covers the A5121 between Derby Turn island and the Pirelli roundabout.
From Monday 3 August, crews will remove the top surface of the road and strengthen the base layer of the carriageway. This phase will use a lane closure on the side closest to residential properties, allowing one-way traffic to continue.
From Sunday 9 August, a full road closure will be in place between the Pirelli Island and property number 91 for approximately one week. Access to The Maltings Industrial Estate and Coytes Carpets will be via a signed diversion route along Hawkins Lane to Derby Road.
Parking and access restrictions
There will be no on-street parking available during this phase for safety reasons. Vehicle access to driveways will not always be possible due to large open excavations on the carriageway. Residents have been asked to make other parking arrangements.
Previous work completed
Over the last two months, crews have completed repairs to the drainage system, replaced damaged kerbs, and resurfaced sections of footways. Civil works are on track to complete this week.
Once the base layer strengthening is finished, engineers will begin overnight resurfacing work on the carriageway.
Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said the project will result in a completely resurfaced major entry point into Burton from the A38 Clay Mills Interchange to the Derby Turns roundabout.
