Burton Albion Women begin their 2026/27 West Midlands Regional Women's Football League season in Division One North following relegation from the Premier Division. Head Coach Hiedi Sloan and Assistant Head Coach Dan Brazier have overseen a rebuild that includes nine new players joining the squad.
The division has expanded from 8 to 12 teams this season, bringing five newly relegated sides into the competition. This expansion means Burton Albion will play 22 league fixtures across the campaign.
A Season for Building
Sloan emphasised the importance of establishing foundations rather than chasing immediate results. "We can't develop as a women's section without being really clear on our identity and how we want to play," she said. "If you just chase results, you're not going to build the foundations and be the team that we want to be."
Brazier outlined the coaching approach for the year ahead, explaining plans to develop primary and secondary formations and identify primary and secondary positions for every player. "Every game is going to be a new challenge. It's on us coaches to react to that, but equally for our players to react on the pitch themselves and learn over the course of the season," he said.
The coaching staff will measure success not only by results but by player development and the application of new learning during matches.
League Opener Against Telford
Burton Albion Women's league campaign begins on Sunday 13 September 2026 at 3pm, against AFC Telford United at the Burton Albion Community Trust 3G Pitch. Telford United opened their own campaign with a 2–0 victory over Newcastle Town Women.
